Miami-based NCL is a
global cruise company and industry innovator that operates a fleet
of 11 ships sailing on roundtrip itineraries seasonally from
Baltimore, Boston, Charleston, Los Angeles, New Orleans,
Philadelphia, Seattle, Miami and Vancouver, and year round from New
York, Houston and Honolulu.
In February 2000, NCL
was acquired by Star Cruises PLC (SES: STRC) of Malaysia. Following
the acquisition of NCL, Star Cruises is now the third largest cruise
line in the world operating a combined fleet of 18 ships. Under 100
percent ownership by Star, NCL has embarked on an expansion program
that involves new ships, onboard product enhancements, and
innovative itineraries. With the addition of Norwegian Sun,
Norwegian Star and Norwegian Dawn, Star Cruises with NCL has
approximately 23,000 lower berths. In May 2000, NCL announced its
Freestyle Cruising concept, which offers NCL passengers a more
relaxed, resort-style cruise product with complete flexibility and
non-intrusive service of the highest standard. Norwegian Cruise Line
has created three new ships purpose-built for Freestyle Cruising:
Norwegian Sun, introduced in September 2001, is a 1,960-passenger
sister ship to Norwegian Sky; Norwegian Star, a 2,240-passenger ship
was delivered to NCL on October 31, 2001; and Norwegian Dawn, a
2,224-passenger sister ship to Norwegian Star was introduced in
December 2002. Freestyle Cruising is now offered on all NCL ships.
In May 2003, NCL announced a new U.S. Flag brand - NCL America -
under which all of its U.S. flagged, U.S. crewed ships will operate.
The brand will debut with Pride of Aloha, currently sailing as
Norwegian Sky. The ship will be renamed Pride of Aloha and reflagged
into the U.S. registry in June. Pride of Aloha will sail seven-day
cruises beginning on July 4th.

New In 2004
 | NCL heads to California in 2004, repositioning
Norwegian Star to Los Angeles this fall for NCL’s first series of
regularly scheduled weekly Mexican Riviera cruises beginning Sept.
26, 2004. Norwegian Star will offer the industry’s only weekly
voyages to Acapulco. |
 | NCL begins regular inter-island cruises in Hawaii
in 2004 under the U.S. flagged NCL America brand. Pride of Aloha,
currently Norwegian Sky, a modern ship that was NCL’s first to offer
Freestyle Cruising in 2000, will be remodeled and re-flagged into
the U.S. register and will begin service in Hawaii in July 2004.
Pride of Aloha will offer seven-night inter-island cruises roundtrip
from Honolulu. A second ship, Pride of America, will be added next
year. Pride of America will be the first new ocean-going passenger
ship in nearly 50 years to sail under the American flag. |
 | Pride of Aloha & Pride of America will provide
the best meetings & conference facilities at sea. Planners can book
a full week’s cruise with the option of adding a hotel stay to
accommodate various meeting lengths. Because the ships will fly the
U.S. flag & only visit U.S. ports, conferences & meetings aboard NCL
America ships quality for both corporate & individual tax
deductibility for meetings expenses. Pride of America will feature
six dedicated meeting rooms as well as the Diamond Head Auditorium,
a multi-level, circular room with a state-of-the-art AV system. |
